I went to Central Florida Veg Fest today with my friend Colleen and it was awesome! As you can see, I got to pet an adorable pig named Wilbur. He’s a rescue pig who now lives at Darlynn’s Darlins animal rescue. I had no idea pigs wag their tails! I took some video of him (including Colleen feeding him!) which you can see here. So cute.
There were plenty of other rescue animals there too, like birds:

And dogs:

My friend and I were able to see Colleen Patrick-Goudreau speak. She’s so positive and inspirational! I am definitely going to check out some of her podcasts soon. She mostly talked about debunking all the infamous myths about veganism, and people’s excuses for not going vegan. There’s no way I could remember all the great things she said, but here’s just one thing: regarding people who are afraid to be vegan because they don’t want to stand out or draw attention to themselves (because it’s “easier” to just go with the status quo), she said that sometimes if you want to make a difference, you have to do something different.

This is a Vegan MoFo blog, so of course I have to talk about what I ate! I got a “PestamorĂ©” panini from the Drunken Monkey food stand. It had eggplant, vegan mozzarella, sundried tomato, and basil pesto cream cheese. It was OK, but not my optimum choice of sandwich fillings (they were pre-made, then grilled). The bread was really good though!

Later on we stopped by the Babycakes booth and I got a Brownie Bite which was delicious! Too bad it was so small =(

There were so many great booths that I can’t name them all, but it was a great variety of vendors, animal rescue groups, nonprofits, and some other miscellaneous things. It was awesome to know that everything there was vegan and just to be surrounded by so many like-minded people. I’m sure a large portion of the attendees were not vegan or even vegetarian, but the fact that that many people are open-minded and interested enough to show up to something like this is very encouraging to me. I attended this same festival a few years ago, and the growth just from then to now is incredible. Everyone we talked to was SO nice and friendly and there was just so much positivity and peacefulness in the air. It was an awesome day!

I took way more pictures than would fit into this post, so you can see them on Flickr if you want!
